More cash for NHS dentists aims to reduce waiting lists

MORE money is to be spent on increasing NHS dental places in North Cornwall before the end of this month to ensure waiting patients can be seen quickly.

NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly successfully bid for a share of £3.5 million of temporary funding to improve dental provision over the next two months. The Primary Care Trust is also adding money to the pot, improving access for 1,300 patients in total.

Team members update their CPR and emergency preparedness drills on a regular basis.  All of this attention to patient health and safety takes employee time and costs money.

UK mouth cancer cases set to rise by quarter

Mouth cancer cases in the UK are set to rise by nearly a quarter by 2030, according to cancer researchers.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer¹ predicts that a little under 8,000 new cases of mouth cancer will be diagnosed each year in the UK by 2030, an increase of 23 per cent compared to 2008.

Mortality rates for head and neck cancer are also set to increase to over 2,700, nearly 29 per cent higher than in 2008 (2,134 deaths).
